The tower garden is back! My indoor, vertical garden uses less soil and water than a regular garden. There are many brands of tower gardens to choose from. You can even build a tower garden on your own. I purchased mine from Juice Plus.
LED lights evenly distribute light at all levels, and multiple types of plants grow simultaneously. It is amazing how quickly they grow. I already have a good variety of herbs and lettuces that are ready to harvest. I want to share them with you!
Let me tell you a little about the garden and how to take some home when you come in next.
Benefits of the Tower Garden
A tower garden has many benefits.
- The aeroponic approach to gardening has been shown to produce an average of 30% greater yields and 3x faster growth times than other methods.
- It takes up to 90% less space than your typical garden.
- Indoor gardening takes all the work of maintaining an outdoor garden (less weeding, easier to plant, etc.).
- Greens grown in your tower garden involve no transport to the grocery store and fewer trips to the store for you (resulting in a lower carbon footprint).
- It uses much less water than conventional farming.
- Water is 100% recyclable in this closed system.
- No need for insecticides or pesticides.
Healthy Habits Made Easy
Establishing good habits has a direct impact on your health. The tower garden encourages me to eat wholesome foods. With fresh veggies growing in my office, it only makes sense that I would enjoy them easily.
I can snip a variety of lettuce and some herbs when it's time for lunch. Adding a little protein and some homemade dressing makes it a complete meal. It can't get fresher, and it is more convenient than going through a drive-through.
You are invited to enjoy the harvest too. There are scissors by the tower for harvesting, so please bring some greens home with you in one of the baggies provided. Just cut off the ones you want.
Making the Dressing
Making your dressing is super easy! You might feel intimidated at first, but you will be a pro in no time.
Here is my simple recipe for making your homemade dressing.
- 1-2 TBSP healthy oil (olive and avocado oil are my favorites)
- 1 TBSP of an acid (lime juice, lemon juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, etc.)
- Optional add-ins (salt, pepper, honey, mustard, berries, garlic, dill, oregano, basil, parsley, rosemary, thyme, or even avocado oil mayo for a creamy dressing)
- Be creative and tailor it to your taste.
Grab some veggies when you come in for your next appointment. I would love to share. You can enjoy a fresh salad for dinner that night.
